Unlike conventional traction splints, the STS Gen2 requires no separate poles or complex mechanisms, allowing for application in less than 60 seconds. This simplicity makes it the preferred choice in urgent situations. The traction mechanism is strategically located at the patient’s hip, utilizing extendable pole segments to apply femur traction through a pushing force on the ankle or distal strap, as opposed to the traditional pulling force from the foot.

Weighing only 17 ounces, the STS Gen2 is both lightweight and compact, ensuring it occupies minimal space in emergency vehicles or aircraft. Its design allows it to fit securely within the confines of a board, litter, or basket without extending beyond the patient’s foot, protecting it from potential impacts.

Application Information:

The distal hitch is positioned just above the ankle, calf, or patella. Initial positioning is achieved using a spring button to extend and lock the outer tube. Fine traction adjustments are made by pulling on the cord and securing it with a downward pull into the V-notch. Traction control at the hip allows for easy adjustments during transport to the hospital.
