The Slishman Traction Splint Gen2 (STS Gen2) is an innovative advancement in emergency medical care, designed to improve upon the original STS by incorporating features from the Rescue Essentials STS-Compact. Addressing the challenges of older traction splints, the STS Gen2 is the quickest splint to apply, significantly reducing on-scene times while ensuring maximum patient comfort.
Unlike conventional traction splints, the STS Gen2 requires no separate poles or complex mechanisms, allowing for application in less than 60 seconds. This simplicity makes it the preferred choice in urgent situations. The traction mechanism is strategically located at the patient’s hip, utilizing extendable pole segments to apply femur traction through a pushing force on the ankle or distal strap, as opposed to the traditional pulling force from the foot.
Weighing only 17 ounces, the STS Gen2 is both lightweight and compact, ensuring it occupies minimal space in emergency vehicles or aircraft. Its design allows it to fit securely within the confines of a board, litter, or basket without extending beyond the patient’s foot, protecting it from potential impacts.
The STS Gen2 is highly versatile, suitable for both adults and children, eliminating the necessity for multiple sizes. Its radiolucent properties mean it can remain in place during patient imaging or examination, streamlining the process for medical professionals.
Key enhancements over the original model include articulated distal and proximal straps attached to the extension mechanism, simplifying application and preventing loss. The one-piece design, with all three extension segments connected, further enhances ease of use. Additionally, instructions are printed directly on the splint, supplemented by an included trifold guide, and pressure points are well-padded for added comfort.
The multi-color design—black outer tube, silver middle tube, and red inner tube—along with red and orange groin strap and Slishman Pressure Wrap, aids in easy identification and application. The included Slishman Pressure Wrap can also be used for foot stabilization, adding to the splint’s functionality.
For emergency responders handling leg fractures, the STS Gen2 is an indispensable tool, offering reliability, ease of use, and effectiveness. Its advanced features and user-friendly design make it an essential component of any emergency medical kit.
Features and Benefits:
- Radiolucent for imaging convenience
- One size fits all, from small children to large adults
- Can be applied in under a minute with minimal training
- Suitable for lower leg/foot amputation cases
- Color-coded design simplifies part identification and application steps
Application Information:
The distal hitch is positioned just above the ankle, calf, or patella. Initial positioning is achieved using a spring button to extend and lock the outer tube. Fine traction adjustments are made by pulling on the cord and securing it with a downward pull into the V-notch. Traction control at the hip allows for easy adjustments during transport to the hospital.
