The CompoFlex® Single Blood Bag 450 ml with CPDA-1 from Fresenius Kabi is a sterile blood collection system designed for the collection and storage of whole blood. The system is intended to collect 450 ml of whole blood and contains 63 ml of CPDA-1 anticoagulant solution, which helps prevent coagulation and maintain blood properties during storage.
The system consists of a primary blood bag with a nominal capacity of 600 ml, a 16G needle, connecting tubing, and an integrated sampling pouch. The sampling pouch allows blood samples to be collected as part of the blood collection procedure.
CPDA-1 Anticoagulant for Blood Collection
The blood bag contains 63 ml of CPDA-1 (Citrate Phosphate Dextrose Adenine), an anticoagulant and preservative solution used for the collection and storage of whole blood.
Each component of the solution serves a specific function:
- Citrate: Binds calcium to help prevent blood coagulation.
- Phosphate: Helps maintain the pH balance of the blood.
- Dextrose: Provides an energy source for red blood cells.
- Adenine: Supports the maintenance of ATP levels in red blood cells.
Together, these components help preserve blood properties during collection and subsequent storage.
Functional Design for Blood Collection
The CompoFlex® Single Blood Bag is manufactured from flexible PVC material containing DEHP. The flexible bag design supports handling and facilitates the mixing of whole blood with the anticoagulant solution during collection.
The system features a 16G needle with a three-facet bevel and a retractable needle mechanism. The integrated sampling pouch enables blood samples to be collected during the blood collection procedure.
The blood bag system is supplied sterile and is steam sterilised.
The CompoFlex® Single Blood Bag 450 ml is intended for professional use in blood collection procedures requiring a sterile single-bag system with an anticoagulant solution and integrated blood sampling capability.
